Helping Hands Wellness Center – Website Refresh
Helping Hands Wellness Center provides free medical care to uninsured and underinsured individuals throughout Kalamazoo County. Every day, they help people access healthcare they might not otherwise receive.
Their previous site didn’t reflect the depth of care they provide or the impact they have on the community. The messaging focused heavily on the organization itself rather than the people seeking help, and it wasn’t always clear who qualified for services or how to get started. The design felt dated and lacked the warmth, clarity, and trust that are such an important part of their experience.
This is something we see often: incredible organizations doing life-changing work, while their website quietly minimizes the value they bring.
Before design begins, we always start with strategy and messaging. Through an in-depth discovery conversation, I worked with their team to better understand their audience, services, and mission. From there, we rewrote the website content from an outside-in perspective, focusing on the questions visitors were actually asking and making it easier to understand who they serve, what care is available, and how to access it.
The visual experience received the same KWD transformation treatment. We brought in a local branding photographer to capture the compassion, dignity, and humanity that define the organization. We refreshed the logo, modernized the design, improved mobile usability, strengthened onsite SEO, and incorporated accessibility best practices. We also added a language translation feature to better serve everyone in our community.
The result: a website that finally reflects the level of care behind the organization. 🎉
Today, Helping Hands has a clear and confident foundation for communicating its mission.
- Patients can quickly understand whether services are right for them.
- Donors and volunteers can easily see the impact of their support.
- And the organization now has messaging that extends beyond the website into brochures, social media, presentations, and everyday conversations.
Most importantly, their website no longer undersells the work they’re doing. It tells the story they’ve been living all along.

From the client:
I received best in class service and highly recommend Kim. She is a visionary, executes with excellence, meets deadlines, and is a thought leader. She really knows how to make lemonade out of lemons. We have gotten so many compliments on our website. She is also very resourceful. We needed a photographer and she was there with a referral. She has referred me to so many great creative services that compliments her work, she also worked with our vendors such as IT to get things done. The process was seamless which gave me a lot of peace.
